My Favourite MMA Fighter

George St Pierre

He’s a Canadian mixed martial artist and the current Welterweight Champion of the UFC. GSP is ranked as the number 1 Welterweight in the world and is the best pound for pound fighter in my opinion.

I first noticed him when I watched him fight against BJ PENN and beat him. He’s very determined and seems to look after his body more than a lot of the other fighters. Wish I had his discipline but I just love my KFC too much at the moment. I also think that the Canadian Olympic wrestling team asked him to fight for them. When you watch GSP in a match he looks really comfortable on the floor and seems to always strive to get his opponents on the canvas. He knows all the moves and whatever position he’s in, he can turn it around and suddenly be the dominant one.

He’s younger than me at twenty-nine years of age and has a background in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), which is what I need and really want to learn. There are a few clubs in Devon for BJJ but only one sticks out and it’s nearer to me than the others, so I’ll look to possibly start there. He started out in Karate, then moved onto wrestling and even did a bit of boxing.

I will from now on put a little bit on my blog about other fighters in the UFC if I think that I like their style or there’s something about them. Feel free to also comment and let me know if I should keep on with the blog or if it’s a waste of time!
