This is a massive bug, as I often find myself changing my shifts around or taking some time off work to fit in with the MMA classes that I attend. I’m always thinking about moves and positions in a match and what I would like to next try. I’ve found myself watching what I eat a bit more and making sure, it’s not all crap. This is not easy as I love the KFC chicken tower meal. I’m also buying an MMA magazine and visiting the local Holland and Barrett in order to see what I can eat as a snack that’s actually gonna do me some good for the sport that I now seem to be literally eating and sleeping.
Today’s class was a gooden. Came away feeling good and knackered. We did allot of rolling (sparring) today and I managed to get the arm bar in several times. It’s one of those moves that you have to get the technique right before attempting to put it on, or else you could end up in a whole world of pain.
One of the guys who I have allot of respect for felt that sickly feeling today and had to take a moment out. It’s the feeling that I used to have in the very beginning when you go at it with everything you have and you’re so physically drained that you cant even throw a punch. You’re just looking at the clock on the wall and keeping your distance away from your opponent, hoping that the instructor soon blows his whistle before you blow chunks.
The big guy managed to get on top of me today and there was nothing that I could do to get him off. I came away from that match wanting to learn more and more mount escapes. I did get him in a couple of guillotines though and that felt good. But again, as with all the guys that fight in that club, there is so much humility and sportsmanship between us all that it makes you feel like part of a well knit team and no longer a new comer.
I also realised that due to missing one of my regular classes this week, I had slipped back on my fitness and seemed to be more out of breath than usual. The guy that I mentioned who felt sick in class seemed to be coming along really well in his striking today. It’s good how you can see someone developing as they train. Usually I can get a few face shots in when I slip his left jab, but today he was expecting it and came in a bit harder. Good on him cos it only teaches me to now develop another technique to use against him. Still lovin' it and looking forward to next week.
